Engineering

To support research on engineering markets, we have developed integrated databases covering plant and equipment investment by end use industry in 63 countries, and also production, imports and exports covering product markets such as pumps, valves and compressors. These continuously updated databases use annual data back to 1995. In addition, a 7,000-project database, updated twice a year, was made publicly available during the eight year period 1987-1999, under the EIF Project Analysis Service, and this was used to drive forecasts for Plant Contracting & Engineering and for pumps, valves and compressors. Since 1999 the project database has been used by EIF internally to contribute to published reports.

A large number of reports have been prepared and updated regularly covering pumps, valves, and compressors, fluid power equipment and a number of other engineering-related markets. Many of these have been publicly available through forecasting groups arranged by EIF independently or in collaboration with trade associations. EIF worked with the British Pump and Valve Manufacturers Association in the 1970s and its successor bodies the British Pump Manufacturers Association and the British Valve and Actuator Association. EIF also provide reports on pumps or valves to the Hydraulic Institute of the USA, Europump and CEIR.

All the above reports were based on annual data. From the year 2010 we will be providing quarterly forecasts, (for the first time in our 30-year history) based on quarterly data back to the year 2000.

In addition to the publicly available reports, EIF have acted as a consultant to many of the leading world engineering companies - the resulting reports are normally confidential and so do not have a wider circulation. These reports have usually involved highly technical interview programmes with end users, distributors and competitors. From 1970-1990 the focus was on Europe. In the last decade there has been an increasing focus on Asia, with a number of major interview programmes covering all the countries in Southeast Asia, India and China.
