Annual Market Forecasts
Overview
Annual five-year forecasts for process equipment have been prepared for over 20 successive years. The objective is to analyse and forecast structural change,
presenting a detailed breakdown of the market by end use industry.
Annual Databases covering 63 Countries
The annual databases cover the period 2001-2016 (for the 2011 report). They cover the following time series:
- Annual estimates of GDP and total plant and equipment investment (government data, plus EIF estimates)
- Annual import and export statistics by product (international bodies, plus EIF estimates)
- Annual estimates of capital expenditure (government data, where available)
- Annual estimates of product shipments (government data, where available)
- Annual capital spend arising from major process plant projects (EIF simulation)
Emphasis is placed on capital expenditure derived from government data, and on annual capital spend arising from major process plant projects. These data sources indicate changes in the pattern of demand by end use industry, which are the key drivers of the process equipment market.
The Annual Market Forecasts provide forecasts for complete equipment only. Parts are excluded.
There are two key features which provide insight into process equipment market trends. These are:
- subdivision of the five main end uses
- sub-division of each end use into process equipment applications
Ideally we would like to show equipment types used in each of the end uses identified, but available data does not support this degree of detail.
The sub-division of end use demand into different process equipment applications, however, does advance our understanding of process equipment market trends. Applications are chosen to help distinguish between engineered, special purpose and standard equipment.
